Abstract
Caption on back: Photograph of President and faculty of the University of Alabama - 1887, My father, Fred R. Maxwell, MA - 1881 at University of Alabama, gave me this photo of the University faculty when he graduated in 1881. His diploma, written in Latin, had the signatures of the Board of Trustees (Curatores) on the bottom left of the diploma and the signatures of the faculty on the bottom right. The names as written on the diploma are: B.B. Lewis, Praeses (President), W.S. Wyman, Ling Lat. Prof., B.F. Meek, Ang. Lit. Prof., William A. Parker, Prof. Mod (?), Eugene A. Smith, Chem. and Geol. Prof., Joshua H. Foster, Nat. Phil. and Astromy Pr., John C. Calhoun, Prof. Gr. Lin et Lit., William J. Vaughn, Prof. Math., Man in uniform & left end - thought to be either Col. Murphree or Col. McCorvey. Dr. Smith is seated upon the left of the Colonel and President Henry D. Clayton is in the center of the picture. [signed] Fred R. Maxwell, Jr. - 1910.
