A collection of audiotapes and typed transcripts of interviews conducted with former members of the Alabama Citizen's Council from Tuscaloosa, Centerville, Birmingham, and other chapters across Alabama, by students in Dr. Culpepper Clark's SCT 536 class, spring 1979. Interviewees included both men and women and they were asked about the membership and motivations of the organization, reactions to Autherine Lucy's enrollment at the University of Alabama, the role of their chapters during the Civil Rights movement in Alabama, and related topics.

Biographical/Historical note
Compiled by students in SCT 536 at the University of Alabama during the spring 1979 term, under the direction of E. Culpepper Clark. The interviews were conducted with former members of the Alabama Citizen's Council, a movement formed in response to the court-ordered desegregation of public school systems.
