0.2 Linear feet 1 book; 18 items

1894-circa 1915

Abstract:

A collection of items, most of them relative to the 1915 high school graduation of Sarah Blue of Union Springs, Alabama, including a keepsake book, “My Golden School Days.”

Scope and Contents note

This collection consists of a miscellany of items, most of them relating to the school days and, especially, the 1915 graduation of Sarah, of Union Springs, Alabama, High School. Among these items are several personal cards, presumably from Ms. Blue’s classmates, some of them inscribed with messages to her, a graduation announcement and program, a newspaper clipping reviewing a “graduation comedy” performed by a cast of which Ms. Blue played the leading role, and a keepsake book entitled “My Golden School Days,” most of the inscriptions in which are in a single hand, presumably Ms. Blue’s. The collection also includes three photographic portraits of unidentified individuals, and a letter of reference from Charles M. Cocke of Hollins Institute, Roanoke, Virginia, for Lucy Feagin as a teacher of elocution, dated 3 July 1894.
