Biographical/Historical note
Charity Sophia Rutland, daughter of Rutherford and Christian Stevenson Rutland, was born on 23 April 1825, in Wilson, Tennessee. She married Alexander Brett (1815-1881); they couple had five children: (1) Rutland (1858-1858); (2) Jeffella (1862-1936); (3) Sarah (1864-1880); (4) Jordon Rutherfold (1867-1936); and (5) Frances (1870-1880). She died on 2 September 1881.
