The collection contains a letter written by Burford, dated 20 October 1847, from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to his brother in Summerfield [Alabama?], giving advice for success in school and discussing the new school year at the University.
Biographical/Historical note
Charles Mitchell Burford was born on either 15 or 16 December 1827, in Camden, Alabama. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama in 1852, and practiced law in Camden. He was killed in battle in Resaca, Georgia, on 14 May 1864.
