A photocopy of a typed draft of the manuscript of a biography of Judge Peter J. Hamilton written by his youngest daughter, Rachel Duke Hamilton Cannon (sometimes noted as Rachel-Duke).

This collection consists of a photocopy of a typed draft of the manuscript of a biography of Judge Peter J. Hamilton by his youngest daughter, Rachel Duke Hamilton Cannon (sometimes noted as Rachel-Duke). It includes photocopies of pictures and articles pertaining to the Judge and his family. In the preface she states, “I have devoted more time to my father’s forebears than is usual in a biography, because it was my great-grandfather, William T. Hamilton, who was the first regular minister of the Government Street Presbyterian Church (Mobile, Alabama).”

Biographical/Historical note

Rachel Duke Hamilton, born circa 1900, was the second daughter of U.S. District Judge Peter J. Hamilton and Rachel “Ellie” Burgett Hamilton, both of Mobile, Alabama. Judge Hamilton served as Judge of the U.S. District Court of the District of Puerto Rico from 1913 to 1921.
