Biographical/Historical note
William Graham Echols was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on 11 November 1892. He attended Birmingham Southern College, the University of Alabama, and Emory University and married Anna Virginia Hale in 1916. They had three children: Mary Lillie (Mrs. K.T. Blackman); William Jr.; and John Hale. He served as a minister in the North Alabama Methodist Conference, was a member of the faculties of Athens College, Birmingham Southern College, Illinois Weslyan University, Stillman College, and for twenty-five years was a faculty member at the University of Alabama in the Department of Religion. He died in Birmingham, Alabama, on 24 December 1982.
