Organized as the John Simmons Manufacturing Company in 1899, the company's name was changed in 1901 to Essex Foundry. As part of a plan of reorganization for Universal Pipe & Radiator Company, Essex Foundry transferred its assets to that company in 1936, becoming a unit of the Central Foundry Company.
