Biographical/Historical note

John Falconer was born in Queen County, Maryland, in 1779. He settled at or near site of Montgomery in 1817 and was associated with Andrew Dexter in laying out the city, being one fourth owner of the original plat. He was reputed to have built the first house there. He was a prominent businessman and the city's first postmaster, serving in that capacity for many years. He died near Montgomery, Alabama, in July 1854.
