This collection consists of two letters written by Edmund Fish's mother, on August 10 and 21, 1862, from Partridge Island to her son in Bellevue Hospital, New York. She writes about a local boy who was "taken prisoner at Culpepper in the last battle between Pope and Jackson."

Biographical/Historical note
Edmund Fish's mother lived in Partridge Island, New York. Her name is unknown. Edmund Fish was a Union soldier during the Civil War; in August of 1862 he was in Bellevue Hospital, New York University Medical College in New York City. The faculty members of the NYU Medical College played a leading role in treating soldiers wounded during the Civil War.
