Scope and Contents note

The collection contains one letter from Mrs. S. G. Kean of Richmond, Virginia, in 1877, to Mrs. Daniel London also of Richmond. Mrs. Kean refers to a previous conversation with Mrs. London about replacing her nurse/servant Judy, with a younger unmarried woman, either "white or colored." She discusses why she is considering keeping her current servant whom she has no complaints about except that she is married and has a "half grown daughter." She also asks Mrs. London if it would be acceptable to bring Judy along with her on a trip to Mrs. London's home and whether or not she will have enough rooms to accommodate everyone.
