Biographical/Historical note
Liberty Bonds were sold by the United States government during World War I to bolster finances for the Allies. Subscribing to the bonds became a symbol of patriotic duty in the United States and introduced the idea of financial securities to many citizens for the first time. The Third Liberty Loan offer opened April 5, 1918.
