Scope and Contents note
The collection contains a letter from Frances of Sheffield, Massachusetts, to her friend, Mary J. Porter, of Lenox, Massachusetts, telling Mary that she will not be coming to visit during her vacation. Frances tells her that she has an opportunity to go to New Haven, Connecticut, and "perhaps such another I never should have."
The letter is not dated, but was probably written in the early 1850s as the stamp on the envelope (Washington head, 3 cent) was issued between 1851 and 1857.
Biographical/Historical note
In the 1850s, Mary J. Porter lived in Lenox, Massachusetts.
