Scope and Contents note

This collection contains twenty letters sent to and six letters written by Hattie Seaman. Incoming correspondence came mainly from Hattie's friend Lou "Luey" Roberts and sister Carrie Seaman, with the remainder from various friends and relatives. One letter also contains a fabric scrap. Letters from Lou gave the latest news at her farm, where Hattie often helped with the broomcorn harvest. Carrie's letters contained news of their friends Etta and Wesley Welsh and the latest events in her hometown and church.

Hattie's outgoing letters, written to her friend and Carrie's husband James Grisamore, told of her health, friends, neighbors, and her loneliness. She also wrote one letter to Carrie while she was away from home helping Lou with the broomcorn harvest.
