Biographical/Historical note

According to Historic Alabama Hotels and Resorts, by James Frederick Sulzby, construction on the Hotel Caldwell began in 1886. During the short time of its operation, the hotel hosted many elaborate functions, including a luncheon for United States President Benjamin Harrison in 1891. The building was destroyed by fire in 1894.
