1914 University of Alabama commencement program that belonged to Omer Carmichael, a 1914 graduate of the University. Omer Carmichael was the cousin of Dr. Oliver Carmichael, president of The University of Alabama. This was donated to us by Donald Carmichael, son of Omer. Omer Carmichael was a school teacher who later became school superintendent in Selma, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; Lynchburg,Virginia; and Louisville, Kentucky, where his successful integration of the school in 1956 earned him national attention and honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, and Dartmouth in 1957.

Biographical/Historical note
Omer Carmichael was a 1914 graduate of the University of Alabama. He was also the cousin of Dr. Oliver Carmichael, president of The University of Alabama.
